Zev Burrows is a composer for film, musical theatre, television, and production music libraries. With music ranging from dramatic tension to minimalism, and from romantic comedy to orchestral Americana, he received his Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, and has composed the scores for many award-winning projects, including the animated short film “Fox Tale” (finalist for 2015 CG Student Awards Best Film of the Year), and the Directors Guild of America award-winning short film “Absent” directed by Sudarshan Suresh. A graduate of many acclaimed industry workshops and programs (ASCAP, BMI, Dramatists Guild, SCL), his recent credits include scores to the web series’ “Bound“, a Top Short Honorable Mention of the 2017 Online Film Festival, and “After Oil“, winner of Best Web Series at the 2018 Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema. In 2018, Zev also composed original music for Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Online Course Development.
Most recently, his new musical “The Pledge” (book & lyrics by Mark Evan Chimsky) has been selected for the Madison New Works Lab at James Madison University for 2019. His theatrical writing debuted in 2018 with the score for the Off-Off-Broadway production of Agatha Christie’s “Appointment With Death” at the Gallery Players in Park Slope. He resides in New York City.
In addition to his film and musical theatre work, Zev is also a contributing composer for Velvet Green Music, a brand new production music library in Santa Monica, where he contributes regularly to several different genres of underscore, and was the featured artist for May 2017. He also regularly composes original music for Mibe Music in collaboration with Emmy-nominated composer Max Surla, 4 Elements Music with Tony-nominated composer Rob Reale, and MPATH Music Library with composer/former Television Academy governor Michael A. Levine. Aside from composition, Zev is also a music teacher at Mike Risko Music School in Westchester, NY, where he teaches guitar, piano, drums, ukulele, and music theory.
